Periwinkles

Periwinkles

We stock Periwinkles (Littorina littorea) (Faocha), is a species of periwinkle mainly found on rocky coasts or sandy or muddy habitats on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Collected all around our shores, slow moving and abundant Winkles have been gathered and consumed since pre-historical times.

They are tender yet firm flesh and full of flavour.  Usually boiled in pure sea water, they can be consumed warm or cold.  After cooking, the soft body is ‘winkled out’ of the shell with a pin or a special ‘winkle-picker’.

Available All Year Round
